چکیده

It is now well recognized that idiopathic chondrocalcinosis articularis, as well as being associated with acute episodes of pyrophosphate arthropathy, may lead to premature degenerative changes in the joints involved. Some workers have also made occasional reference to the presence of juxta-articular osteolytic lesions (McCarty, Kohn, and Faires, 1962; Currey, 1970.) More recently there have been reports of destructive joint changes which can be the cause of considerable disability (Robinson, 1971; Menkes, Simon, Chouraki, Ecoffet, Amor, and Delbarre, 1973). Five patients (4 women and 1 man), from a series of eighty patients with idiopathic chondrocalcinosis seen at King's College Hospital, have developed a severe destructive arthropathy. In none of them was there evidence of haemochromatosis or hyperparathyroidism and serological tests for syphilis and for rheumatoid factor were negative. One of the five patients has recently developed diabetes mellitus and another has Paget's disease, although neither of these conditions is causing symptoms. Case reports

Chondrocalcinosis articularis Section L Clinical and radiological study.

During the past 7 years we have had the opportunity of studying 27 cases of a condition characterized by multiple calcification of hyaline and fibrous cartilage both of the joints and of the intervertebral disks.* We present in this paper a detailed nosographical analysis of this clinical entity which we have named articular chondrocalcinosis (AC). Up to 1955, when we saw our first cases, we fo...

Pyrophosphate arthropathy--recent clinical advances.

It is now 20 years since McCarty et al. identified calcium pyrophosphate dihydrate (CPPD) crystals in synovial fluid from patients with acute arthritis and radiological chondrocalcinosis.' CPPD crystals were subsequently shown to be inflammatory both in vivo and in vitro2 and their causal role in joint disease, reflected by the term 'CPPD crystal-induced synovitis', was readily accepted. Cadave...

Pseudogout, chondrocalcinosis and the early recognition of haemochromatosis.

Idiopathic haemochromatosis is a disorder which has a well-known association with chondrocalcinosis. We report arthritis associated with chondrocalcinosis as the first clinical manifestation of underlying haemochromatosis in two otherwise asymptomatic male patients. In one patient, pyrophosphate arthropathy presented with acute pseudogout. Better appreciation of this presentation will result in...

Pseudogout: timing of attacks and the cosmogeophysical environment.

OBJECTIVE To search for a time parallelism between lunar and solar rotation cycles and calendar dates of attacks of pseudogout--chondrocalcinosis articularis (pyrophosphate arthropathy). METHODS Seventy-four documented attacks with known calendar dates of onset recorded in 16 patients of one family cluster between 1955 and 1995 were examined in this study. Their daily frequencies during the g...
